I grew up in small town Tyndall, South Dakota (population of 1200). If you would of told me 20 years ago that I would have a career in fitness, I never would of believed you. I had already decided as a child that I was going to be a doctor like my dad. I knew I had to study hard and put school first. Don’t get me wrong, I loved sports as a kid. I was in gymnastics, track, dance, cheerleading and started lifting weights when I was 12. Continued cheerleading in college, however, I was so focused on getting good grades and going off to medical school. I ended up graduating with highest honors with a Bachelor of Science in Biology (pre medicine) with minors in chemistry and health science. While in college I got really serious about lifting weight and got certified as a personal trainer and nutritionist. I loved to study nutrition, but I didn’t think a career in being a personal trainer or as a nutritionist was possible. At the end of my college career, I started competing in fitness competitions. Back then, you had to either be a bodybuilder or a fitness competitor. Well, the fitness routine came naturally to me because I was a gymnast and a cheerleader. From that moment on, I was hooked on fitness. To date, I have competed in over 42 fitness competitions. Holding 76 titles (36 first place titles) and winning the Natural Olympia twice.
After graduating college I didn’t know what to do. I knew I had just spent the last 4 years of my life preparing for medical school but my love was in fitness and nutrition. I decided to start graduate school at UNLV for exercise physiology and see if I still wanted to pursue medical school or try to figure out a career in fitness. In the meantime, I started working for numerous nutrition companies. I worked for Quest Nutrition, ANSI Nutrition, Ground Based Nutrition, VPX Sports, Fit Girl Wear, Cardio Fire and Egg Whites International. I was very thankful for the opportunity I had with each of these amazing companies. Finally one day, I had done some research online and found the right ingredients I wanted to use to create my own protein bar. Don’t get me wrong, it took a lot of trial and error. Even after sending the first sample away to get the Certificate of Analysis, I wasn’t happy with the nutritionals. Finally, after many more attempts, I got the nutritionals to where I was happy. One of the things that was so important to me was the quality of ingredients. The protein I had to use could not have anything artificial in it. Nor, did I want any sugar alcohols or artificial sweeteners in my bar. Everything had to be 100% natural. I didn’t compete in 76 drug free competitions to create a bar that didn’t fit my philosophy of being natural.
So, that is how the Em-Power Bar was born. I feel it is important for you to know the history of me and my background, simply for my credibility. Do you ever wonder how credible someone is when they create a product? Well, now you have it!! I can promise you, that you won’t be let down by the quality of my ingredients or the products that I develop. I hope you enjoy my website!
